IUDs Recommended for Adolescent Contraception

The American Academy of PeHE-IUD-2diatrics for the first time has recommended IUDs as a first-line form of contraception for adolescents who have sex, though condoms and the pill are also accepted options.

This recommendation builds on support from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, which in 2011 termed it the most effective form of birth control and noted that it posed minimal risks. A year later, the group recommended it specifically for teens.

As the leading practitioners of personal-service obstetrics and gynecology in Fort Collins and surrounding areas, we invite women of all ages–including teens and their mothers–to visit us for a straightforward discussion of teen pregnancy and its prevention, including IUDs.

We are, after all, the only local OB-GYN practice selected by MTV’s respected series “16 & Pregnant.”
