Urinary Incontinence Treatment

At A Woman’s Healing Center, we have the knowledge, tools, skills, and experience to help you overcome or manage urinary incontinence.

What Is Urinary Incontinence?

Incontinence, or UI, is the loss of bladder control, which can cause urine to leak. Women are more likely to experience UI because of events like pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause, that affect the pelvic muscles. This is also because a woman’s urethra is shorter than a man’s, so there are fewer muscles that keep urine from leaking.

Types of Incontinence

There are two common types of incontinence: stress incontinence and urge incontinence.

Stress incontinence is the most common form of urinary incontinence. This happens when stress or pressure is put on the bladder, sometimes from weak pelvic floor muscles that make the bladder and urethra work harder. With stress incontinence, certain actions like coughing, sneezing, sudden movements, or physical activity can cause you to leak urine.

Urge incontinence usually means that urine leakage happens after a strong urge to urinate before you can get to a bathroom. This is also referred to as “overactive bladder,” because many women feel the need to urinate 8 or more times per day.

How Do You Treat Urinary Incontinence?

Treatments will be different for each case. It’s important to discuss your symptoms with your doctor so that they can help find an option that’s right for you.

Some management options for urinary incontinence include physical therapy, medication, pessaries, and surgery.

Additionally, we can offer V-Lase Vaginal Rejuvenation and the WOW Shot. V-Lase is a laser procedure that can help reduce or eliminate UI. The WOW Shot uses platelet-rich plasma to help reduce or eliminate UI and enhance in sexual response for you and your partner.

Frequently asked questions

What causes incontinence?

Incontinence can happen when the muscles of the bladder suddenly tighten, and the muscles of the sphincter are not strong enough to pinch the urethra shut. This allows the urine to leak out of the urethra.

What are the symptoms of UI?

In addition to leaking urine, some women experience pressure or spasms that causes a strong urge to urinate, going to the bathroom frequently, or urinating while sleeping.

Can I treat UI at home?

In addition to your doctor’s treatments, you can also try doing Kegel exercises, training your bladder by using the bathroom on a schedule, or changing your eating habits, as some foods and drinks can make UI worse.
